Isa Muhammad Maishanu is currently Professor of Comparative Religion in the Department of Islamic Studies, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, with over twenty publications in areas of Comparative Religion, Islamic Theology (Aqidah), the Qur’an and Women in Islam. He is also presently a Visiting Professor in the Department of Philosophy, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the Department of Islamic Studies, Kaduna State University, Kaduna. Prof. Maishanu is External Examiner in Bayero University, Kano and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
He obtained his B.A. (Hons.) Islamic Studies from Usmanu Danfodiyo University and M.A. and PhD degrees from International Islamic University, Islamabad, Pakistan, where he obtained M. A. and PhD in Comparative Religion. He received Gold Medal in his PhD Thesis titled ‘The Comparative Method in the Study of Religion: A Case Study of Al-Amiri and Al-Biruni and Selected Modern Western Approaches’. He taught in that University for twelve (12) years and was Head of Department of Comparative Religion in the University.
Prof. Maishanu has attended a number of International conferences in many countries. He is a member of both the International Foundation of Islamic Scholars of Muslim World League, Makkah, Saudi Arabia, as well as, the International Islamic Foundation for Education, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He is currently the Sokoto State Chairman of Nigeria Association of Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Studies (NATAIS), as well as the Vice Chairman I of the Council of Ulama, Sokoto State branch.
He has memorized the Glorious Qur’an and is fluent in Hausa, Arabic and English. He is happily married and has 14 children.
