Umar Mustapha is the Secretary General, Council for Qur’anic Education. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Purchasing and Supply from the famous Kaduna Polytechnic and a Master Degree in Industrial/ Labour Relations from the University of Maiduguri. Umar began his career with the Borno State Health Management Board as a Higher Stock Verifier where he worked between 1983 and 1986. He became the General Manager Import and Export Supply with Serobe Nigeria LTD (1987 – 1993).
Umar is a Member, Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply London (2001), he was also a member of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (Decisions Technology Institute), Kuru, Jos (2014) and Process Consultant for National Electricity Power Authority NEPA (1993-2003). He is also the Managing Director Dhunnun Nigeria Ltd and member Joint Project Management Team for a Consortium, Decision Technology Institute based in Huston, Texas U.S.A., Consultant on Conceptualization, Conclusion of Bilateral Air Space Agreement BASA for Afriqiyya Airlines of Libya (1997 to Date).
In view of his resolve and determination to contribute to the development of the society, Umar joined politics in the 3rd Republic where he contested and won the election into the House of Representative from Bama Constituency of Borno State (1991-1993), He was the pioneer chairman of the Kowa Party and has contested the gubernatorial elections of Borno State in 2011 and 2015 respectively.
Umar speaks Kanuri, Hausa, Arabic and English and is married with children.
